Everyone knows that brushing your teeth is the single most important strategy you can perform to improve the health of your teeth. Brushing your teeth is perhaps the easiest way to maintain a healthy mouth. However you would be surprised at how many people don’t brush on a regular basis or may not even understand how to brush the way that you are supposed to.

Brushing should be done at least twice a day. Usually it is recommended after breakfast and then again after dinner. However to be most effective it is generally a good idea to brush after every meal. Typically that would mean 3 times a day. The problem most of us have with brushing after lunch is that we aren’t always home around that time of day. For this reason it is important that when we are at home we are brushing properly.

The first thing you will need in order to improve your teeth is a good toothbrush. You typically want a soft bristle toothbrush so as to avoid any problems with over brushing or brushing too hard. There are many people that are under the impression that brushing hard is good for their teeth. In fact brushing too hard on your teeth and gums is really quite horrible for your gums and teeth. It’s also important to choose a good toothpaste. You can choose from many, from cavity protection, to whitening teeth to total care.

After developing a good brushing routine, you may wish to improve the whiteness of your teeth. This can be done by laser whitening, whitening trays, be mindful that these methods are not meant to be done on a regular basis–usually once, maybe twice a year is sufficient. Over-use of these products can weaken your teeth and cause sensitivity.

If you can follow these dental care tips, then you are already helping to improve the condition of your mouth and teeth. Make sure to get a proper toothbrush and remember to brush gently and to reach all areas of your mouth, including the tongue, cheeks, and gums. If you experience a sensitive teeth or a case such as teeth grinding, it is recommended that you see a dentist immediately.
