Help Understanding Terms of a Home Gym
All doctors agree that everyone needs to exercise regularly to maintain a healthy life style; many people choose home gyms over a health club or fitness center for many reasons. Some people don’t want to exercise in front of strangers, others don’t have the time to go to a club to exercise regularly, and others still don’t know how to use the equipment.
A home gym can solve all of these problems for most people, choosing the right home gym for fit their needs can be hard considering all the choices which are available today. So many celebrities are endorsing products guaranteed to work it can be hard to decide which products are designed to make money and which products actually deliver results.
Weight Machine Home Gyms
When the machine has weights that are all connected by chords and cables to aid in lifting, this is often called a weight machine; these are common in health clubs and can be purchased for home gyms as well.
This system is large and will usually need an entire room to be dedicated to its use and storage; for people with a spare room this can be a nice choice for a home gym, it can be a place to escape the day, relax the mind and focus on the body for a time.
These home gyms also have a high maximum weight most of the time and can usually have more weight added if the need arises; many average users will never out grow this type of equipment, unless they are muscle building.
Free Weights
Free weight means exactly what the name suggests that the weights are bar bell style and do not have the safety or added pull of a weight machine; many people like this home gym because they are able to customize the weight settings and they like the classic feel of the bar bell.
This home gym equipment can be dangerous however because it is easy to get trapped under a weight that is too heavy to be lifted by ones self or the individual weights could easily break a bone if they were to fall on a person.
Resistance Machines
One of the newest trends in home gyms is the weight resistance machine; these machines use the persons own weight as resistance instead of weights which can be increased by creating tension.
Tension is created by tightening bands or other types of belts which can make the exercise harder therefore causing the person exercising to burn more calories and build more muscle.
Resistance based home gyms are often very space friendly, many will fold up and into a corner, closet, or even under a bed. Many resistance machines have special attachments to work every part of the body with little equipment modifications necessary.
Deciding which type of home gym to choose should factor in the amount of space available for the equipment, ease of use, cost of the equipment, and the results desired from the equipment.
